Quality
animation
of
still
photographs
is
done
by
shooting
large
format
(8X10
inch)
transparencies
such
as
Ektachromes
and
lighting
them
from
behind,
over
an
opal
(light
diffusion)
glass.
An
opal
glass
is
essential
for
all
back-lit
work
to
evenly
diffuse
light
and
make
it
uniform
across
the
entire
image.
By
inserting
colored
gels
(gelatin
transparencies),
the
"glow"
of
the
opal
glass
can
be
changed
into
whatever
color
gel
is
placed
over
it.
Layers
of
black
block
light.
Layers
of
colors
create
very
interesting
images.
This
method
of
animation
was
used
in
many
interesting
special
effects
like
adding
glows
and
ray
gun
beams
before
CG.
