An
armature
is
a
skeletal
framework
with
ratcheted
joints
(wire
joints
suck),
over
which
appliances
such
as
faces,
hands,
feet
and
costumes
are
fitted
to
create
puppet-like
figures
that
can
be
articulated
(moved)
quickly
between
frames.
By
far,
this
is
the
least
labor
intensive
form
of
animation
and
the
figures
have
an
excellent
service
life,
but
require
some
metal
fabrication
skills
to
create
a
durable
armature
because
ball
joints
locked
by
Allen
screws
tend
to
strip
when
constantly
untightened
and
retightened
between
each
frame
you
shoot.
