Gumby
is
an
example
of
clay
animation.
Clay
figures
generally
do
not
survive
long
into
photography
without
constant
overhauling
and
re-sculpting.
They
melt
and
get
messy
very
quickly.
Sculpty
is
an
excellent
clay
because
you
can
bake
it
so
it
solidifies
and
doesn't
melt
under
the
hot
lights.
Replacement
animation
is
a
very
practical
alternative
to
clay.
Sculpting
a
plurality
of
glazed
heads
with
a
variety
of
facial
expressions
-
that
can
be
popped
on
and
off
of
a
character's
armature
skeleton
makes
animation
faster
and
easier;
once
the
sculpting
is
removed
from
the
frame
by
frame
animation
process,
you
can
focus
on
animation
instead
of
sculpting
endlessly.
